On February 26th, the Supreme Court deliberated over directing the Centre and the Airport Authority of India to develop a wheelchair-accessible passenger standard operating procedure. A wheelchair-bound lady who was repeatedly ordered to stand up for her security check at the Kolkata airport was presenting her case before a bench chaired by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.

The bench, which included Justices Manoj Misra and JB Pardiwala, sent a notice on the request for the proper execution of regulations, setting a return date of March 15, 2024.

Arushi Singh, who is 75% disabled, requested assistance at the airport but received none. She has filed an instant petition via Advocate Abiha Zaidi. Advocate Zaidi argued that she was repeatedly requested to stand during the screening and was inquired as to why she was unable to stand for a short while.

Name of the case: Arushi Singh vs. Union Of India & Ors.
