On July 17th, the Apex Court rejected the plea to initiate action against stand-up comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi for humiliating the judiciary and advocates on his show ‘Bas Kar Bassi’.

The petition was filed by Adv. Farhat Warsi claiming that Bassi defamed the judicial system, lawyers and the whole legal profession in general in his recent show. The show is centred around the struggles of a young NLU graduate in his profession.

The Court rejected the petition criticising the petitioner saying “What’s this? Why should we entertain this against some stand-up comedy show? Come with something better… Dismissed. Not a matter for Article 32.”

The division Bench of Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia cajoled that the petitioner does not have to entertain the whole community and that the lawyers can take care of themselves.
