Sub-Inspector K Saiju, a trainee at the Ernakulam North Police Station, has been suspended by the City Police Commissioner of Ernakulam for assaulting a lawyer.

On July 13, 2023, Saiju allegedly attacked Advocate Srinath C.V. and a third party. The lawyer was allegedly also subjected to insults from Saiju. On July 8, a second advocate named Advocate Sreekanth was also accused of being beaten by the same policeman.

The suspension comes after it was determined that Saiju had seriously violated the rules, engaged in improper behavior, and abused his position of responsibility.

Advocates Adarsh S. and Sneha V. also made a resolution in this matter before the Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association to condemn the police atrocity and high handiness meted out to its members.

The Resolution stated that:

“Police atrocities and harassment on the public are on the rise and the members of the legal fraternity are no exception. The action on the part of this officer is a blatant violation of the basic human rights, and no doubt on affront of the personal liberty of a citizen. Physical assault for no reason and without any provocation cannot be justified. Action needs to be taken against Saiju and all such delinquent officer.”

The Association’s next meeting is scheduled for 19.07.2023.
