New Directive For 2020 CLAT Takers Is Unjustified, 3 Law students Write A letter To CLAT Consortium

Three law students- Priya Chaudhary, Amit Agarwal, and Kumar Harsh, have written a letter to the CLAT Consortium in furtherance of a notification dated 23rd September 2020 issued by the Consortium, which concerns certain instructions regarding the conduction of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) examination amidst the pandemic.

Students who have been tested positive for coronavirus will not be allowed to appear for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2020, as per the revised guidelines, “All the candidates who have been tested positive and are under medical surveillance or in isolation will not be permitted to take the CLAT 2020 examination scheduled to be held on 28th September,” the 9th point of the guidelines read.

It was also stated that the candidates need to bring a self-health declaration form to the exam hall without which entry will not be permitted.

This sudden revelation has left a lot of aspirants distraught as their career hangs in the balance.

While the notification does not clearly state the reason behind the arbitrary decision, the said guideline has been the subject of much criticism because of the unjustified deprivation to the students from taking the examination, which would provide them admission to one of the national law universities.
