A court in Jaipur allowed one Dashrath Kumawat to pay the maintenance amount of Rs. 55,000/- to his wife, Seema Kumawat, in Rs. 1 and Rs. 2 coins. He was arrested for not paying the amount for 11 months after the family court issued a recovery warrant for not complying with the payments. His family brought the money to the court in seven sacks.

Dashrath’s counsel, Advocate Raman Gupta, insisted that coins must be accepted as they were legal tender. He also highlighted that his client was a street vendor who is regularly paid in coins. The court allowed Dashrath to give the coins and demanded to count them and make 55 packets with Rs. 1000/- in each. Advocate Ramprakash Kumawat, representing Seema, stated that Dashrath has bought coins to harass his client and will take 10 days to count them.
