A sessions court in Jabalpur has sentenced a man to 110 years of rigorous imprisonment for forging fake appointment letters in the name of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He gave it to at least 15 people and charged them Rs 5,000 to Rs 30,000 each.

As per the prosecution, the accused, Purushottam Pasi, had given fake appointment letters to 100 people, promising to get them jobs in the MP High Court. However, only 15 such cases came to light and could be put up in court. Additional District & Sessions Judge Abhishek Saxena sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment for each case under IPC Section 420, in addition to three years each under IPC Sections 467 and 471. Justice Saxena highlighted that the sentences would be consecutive, not concurrent. Hence, Pasi will have to spend 110 years in jail. He was also fined Rs 15,000.

He forged the appointment letters with the help of a woman accomplice. The victims came to know of the forgery only when they went to the High Court to ‘join duty’. Some of them lodged a complaint with the Cantonment police station on December 18, 2013, and a case was registered against Pasi and the woman. However, the Court acquitted her for lack of evidence.
