Mr. Rinshul Chandra has resigned from his position as Chief Operating Officer of Zomato’s Food Delivery unit, the company confirmed in a recent regulatory filing. His resignation is effective April 5 and is motivated by his intention to pursue new interests and career goals.
In a letter to Zomato CEO, Mr. Deepinder Goyal, Mr.Chandra formally stated that he would be stepping down as COO – “Food Ordering & Delivery Business of Eternal Limited”, effective April 7, 2025. He noted that the move was driven by a desire to explore new opportunities aligned with his evolving ambitions.
While the Zomato app and food delivery brand continue to operate as before, the legal name of the company has been changed to Eternal.
Nearly 600 customer support staff hired under Zomato’s, “Zomato Associate Accelerator Program” (ZAAP) have been laid off within a year of joining. The reduction in workforce is attributed to the company’s increasing shift toward AI-based customer service.
The layoffs affected teams in Gurugram and Hyderabad. Although around 1,500 people were initially brought in under ZAAP with the promise of career advancement, many of their contracts were not renewed by the end of their term.
The decision came shortly after Zomato introduced its AI-powered support platform, Nugget, to streamline customer service operations.
