Some important identifications to make sure that you are able to use π¦ππ π’π»πΉπΆπ»π² case search more effectively:
1) The alphabets (D) and (J) depict ‘Digest’ and ‘Judgment’.
‘Judgment’ or ‘J’ is basically the complete judgment of the case you have searched.
‘Digest’ or ‘D’ part is basically the crux of the judgment. ‘Digest’ are short and crisp of the lengthy issues and discussions done in the case. This helps the reader to understand the whole case without reading the complete judgment.
2) The Orange-colored number displayed right next to the symbol ‘J’ or ‘D’ depicts the number of judges in your searched case.
Example: J 2 or D 2 (means 2-Judge bench case)
3) The Red-colored symbol displayed adjacent to the symbol ‘J’ or ‘D’ means ‘Over-ruled’.
Example: J 2Β Β or D 2Β
This symbol conveys that either the complete judgment is overruled or only some issue is overruled. The judgment which has overruled will be displayed in red-color at the top.
Example: Suresh Kumar Koushal v. NAZ Foundation (2014) case was overruled by Navtej Johar v. Union of India (2018).
4) The Short abbreviation of ‘Supreme Court Case’ is SCC. The complete citation is displayed at the top of the case window in black-color font.
