According to the Public Relations Office (PRO) of the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of India (CJI), DY Chandrachud, was wrongly attributed to saying something in a fake piece of news that was circulated on social media and messaging apps on 14th August 2023.
As per the social media post making the rounds, the CJI has urged to the public to unite and come out on the streets to fight for their rights against a ‘dictatorial government’.
The PRO said in a press release that the social media post is false, malicious, and playful and that neither the CJI nor anybody on his behalf issued it.
The PRO made it clear by stating that:
“No such post has been issued by the Chief Justice of India nor has he authorized any such post.”
Additionally, the PRO stated that the proper legal action is being taken in this respect-
“Appropriate action is being taken in this regard with the law enforcement authorities.”
