In a disturbing case of police brutality, Advocate Ayush Ranjan Jha, a member of the Rohini Court Bar Association, was subjected to a violent assault by a policeman in civilian attire in Palam, Dwarka, under the jurisdiction of the Delhi Cantt. police station on 12th March 2025. The officer, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, attacked Mr. Jha with an iron rod, striking him multiple times on the head and causing severe injuries.

Medical reports indicate that while Mr. Jha is out of danger, he has suffered significant head trauma, raising serious concerns over the safety and security of legal professionals. The attack has triggered outrage among the legal community, with lawyers and bar associations demanding immediate action against the accused officer.

Eyewitnesses at the scene played a critical role in preventing further harm, as alert passersby intervened and apprehended the assailant on the spot. However, despite the swift response, the authorities have not yet revealed the accused officer’s name, though they have confirmed that an investigation is underway.

The Rohini Court Bar Association, along with several other legal bodies, has strongly condemned the incident. Legal professionals across Delhi are voicing their deep frustration over the rising number of violent attacks on advocates, questioning the repeated need for protests to demand basic rights to safety and dignity.

In response, the legal fraternity has presented a set of urgent demands to the authorities, including:

  • Immediate suspension and arrest of the accused officer.
  • A fair and transparent investigation into the incident.
  • Strict legal action to deter future police misconduct.
  • Systemic reforms to safeguard legal professionals from such attacks.

This attack is the latest in a series of alleged police assaults on advocates, raising concerns over the erosion of public trust in law enforcement. As protests gain momentum, the legal community is closely watching how the Delhi Police will handle the case, emphasizing that no one should be above the law especially those entrusted with enforcing it.
