On 16th September 2025, the Punjab and Haryana High Court declined to grant relief to Advocate Pardeep Kumar. He had applied for the post of Additional District and Sessions Judge, but was rejected after he mistakenly declared that he had more than one wife. This happened since the recruitment rules for the Haryana Superior Judicial Service disqualify candidates with more than one living spouse.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjiv Berry held that Kumar’s plea that the error was inadvertent and gave him no advantage was rejected. The bench observed that recruitment authorities could only act on the declaration made in the form.
Further, the Court observed that candidates alone bear responsibility for mistakes in their applications and emphasised that competitive exams demand strict adherence to rules and timelines. After finding no merit in Kumar’s submissions, the Bench dismissed his petition.
