PhysicsWallah (PW), led by Alakh Pandey, is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire Drishti IAS, a prominent UPSC coaching institute founded by Vikas Divyakirti, for an estimated ₹2,500 crore.

This move comes as PW gears up for a $500 million IPO, with the acquisition expected to enhance its presence in the competitive exam coaching market, especially in UPSC preparation. The integration of Drishti IAS into PW’s platform would allow the edtech giant to diversify beyond engineering and medical coaching into civil services and other government exams.

If finalized, this acquisition would be among the most notable consolidation moves in India’s edtech landscape. Over the past few years, large-scale deals have declined as key players prioritize financial sustainability due to funding pressures. A ₹2,500 crore acquisition of this scale would signal PhysicsWallah’s determined expansion strategy. Market research forecasts that the Indian edtech industry will expand to $10 billion by 2025, with increasing demand for digital and blended learning models.

As PhysicsWallah readies itself for a public offering, this acquisition could be a transformative move, enhancing its dominance in India’s edtech landscape. With the deal’s closure expected soon, the industry is keen to observe its long-term effects on the evolution of online and offline education integration.
