On Twitter Vice President share His Resignation Letter

Jagdeep Dhankar, the Vice President of India, on 21 July 2025, officially announced his resignation from office, citing his health-related concerns. In a heartfelt letter addressed to the President of India, which he also shared on his Twitter (X) account, he stated his intention to step down with immediate effect to prioritize his health and adhere to medical advice.

“In accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, that will be effective immediately, to prioritize health care and abide by medical advice”.

Jagdeep Dhankar wrote, expressing the gravity of his decision & profound gratitude to the President & the Prime Minister for their unwavering support during his tenure.

I wish to extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency, the Hon’ble President of India, for her steadfast support and the wonderfully collaborative working relationship we maintained throughout my time in office. I also express my sincere appreciation to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the esteemed Council of Ministers; the Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, allowing me to learn and grow during my time in this esteemed position.”

Jagdeep Dhankar had been sworn in as the 14th Vice President of India on August 11, 2022, after a distinguished career in public service. Born in 1951 in Rajasthan, he pursued his legal studies at the University of Rajasthan, where he developed a strong foundation in law. In 1990, he was conferred the title of Senior Advocate by the Rajasthan High Court.

His political journey included serving as a Member of Parliament, a state legislator, and as Union Minister during the early 1990s. From 2019 until 2022, he held the position of Governor of West Bengal, a tenure marked by notable confrontations with the state government, reflecting his assertive political style.

As Vice President and Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankar frequently made headlines for his vigorous exchanges with Members of Parliament, often taking a strong stance on issues affecting the judiciary, which garnered both support and criticism throughout his tenure. Jagdeep Dhankar leaves a legacy of being an outspoken leader deeply committed to his principles and responsibilities.
