A tragic incident unfolded at Attiguppe Metro Station, Bengaluru, on Thursday, March 21, around 2 p.m. A 19-year-old student at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Dhruv Jatin Thakkar, from Mumbai, fell onto the Namma Metro tracks. He was struck by an oncoming metro train and tragically lost his life. Retrieving his body from the tracks proved to be a challenging task for the authorities.
Initial investigations suggest that Thakkar jumped onto the tracks, leading to his untimely demise. However, the police are diligently examining CCTV footage and other evidence to ascertain the exact sequence of events. A senior police official stated, “Investigations are on to ascertain what led to his death.”
Sudhir Krishnaswamy, the Vice Chancellor of NLSIU, expressed profound grief over the passing of Dhruv, stating, “The National Law School of India University, Bangalore, is deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden and unexpected demise of one of our students, Mr. Dhruv Jatin Thakkar.” He described Thakkar as a warm, compassionate, and diligent student, offering condolences to his family and friends.
In honor of Dhruv, NLSIU announced the cancellation of classes for the remainder of the week, along with organizing a condolence meeting on March 22. Meanwhile, the incident caused disruptions on Bengaluru Metro’s Purple Line for over two hours, with train services suspended from 2.10 p.m. until clearance was given by authorities at 4 p.m.
