The Ministry of Education has released the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the year 2023. It contains a consolidated list of universities, colleges and research institutions specialized in engineering, management, medical, pharmacy, dental, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors and innovation, which are ranked according to certain parameters. The factors include teaching, learning, resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity and peer perception.
100 law schools participated this year. National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore is ranked to be the top law school in India. This is the sixth consecutive year that NLSIU has acquired this position. National Law University Delhi is in the second and NALSAR Hyderabad is in the third position. NLU Delhi’s rank is also the same as the previous year.
The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences and Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, are in the fourth and fifth position respectively. Symbiosis Law School Pune went down from third rank in 2022 to sixth rank this year.
Babasaheb Bhimarao Ambedkar, Lucknow University, has made it to this list for the first time and is ranked tenth. Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) has acquired the seventh position. Siksha O Anusandhan goes one rank higher from 2022 and is currently in eighth place. IIT Kharagpur, in ninth position, went down three ranks from last year.
