ABOUT THE CONFERENCE on Indianisation of Legal System
The Conference seeks to provide a platform for critical discussions on the integration of India’s rich legal heritage with contemporary legal reforms. The conference aims to revisit the foundational principles of Bharatiya Nyaya Shastra, exploring their relevance in addressing modern legal challenges while critically analyzing the transformative impact of the newly enacted criminal laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.
This academic gathering will delve into the philosophical underpinnings of Indian jurisprudence, such as the concept of Dharma and justice as envisioned in ancient texts, and their potential to enrich the modern legal framework. It will also examine how these principles can complement emerging legal reforms aimed at decolonizing India’s judicial system. The conference will further explore the implications of new criminal laws, which mark a significant departure from colonial-era legislation by emphasizing justice and rehabilitation over mere punishment. These laws aim to modernize India’s criminal justice system by addressing contemporary issues like cybercrime, organized crime, and digital evidence.
Additionally, the conference will highlight the role of technological advancements in adjudication processes, focusing on tools like SUPACE (Supreme Court Portal for Assistance in Court Efficiency) and SUVAS (Supreme Court Vidhik Anuvaad Software). These innovations represent a step forward in streamlining judicial efficiency and ensuring transparency.
By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue among legal scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and students, this conference aspires to bridge the gap between traditional Indian jurisprudential ethos and modern legal practices. It invites participants to engage with themes that not only reflect India’s legal heritage but also address pressing contemporary challenges. Through these discussions, the conference aims to contribute to shaping a more inclusive, efficient, and culturally resonant legal system for India.
