A Mumbai court granted the accused bail after 2 days when he died. The defendant was Suresh Pawar, a 62-year-old man with severe diabetes and lung infections. He was a real estate agent who had reportedly sold a home using false papers when he was detained. The accused was in prison since December 2021.
The court granted the accused a temporary bail for the period of 6 months bails on the ground of ‘humanitarian’. The court held that:
“It appears from the medical papers that the applicant (Suresh Pawar) is a severe diabetic and his right leg below the knee had to be amputated due to septic. He is also suffering from a lung infection. Therefore, considering his age, severe medical complications, and the further need for medical care, his prayer for temporary bail can be considered on purely humanitarian grounds”.
The conclusion of the bail plea took place on 9th May 2023 and the additional sessions judge i.e., Vishal S Gaike issued the bail order after 2 days.
