Motilal Oswal Investment Banking has appointed Subhrajit Roy as Senior Managing Director and Head of Equity Capital Markets. His appointment was recently confirmed through an update on the professional networking platform LinkedIn.

Roy, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow, brings with him 24 years of extensive experience in investment banking and capital markets. Before joining Motilal Oswal Investment Banking, he served as Managing Director and Head of Global Capital Markets at BofA Securities India. His career spans some of the most prestigious financial institutions, including Kotak Investment Banking, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan Chase, and ICICI Bank, reflecting his deep expertise in financial advisory and equity markets.

His induction into Motilal Oswal follows another high-profile hiring within the firm Amit Ramchandani, formerly of JM Financial, recently assumed the role of CEO of Investment Banking at Motilal Oswal Group. The firm has been actively involved in major capital market transactions, having recently played a pivotal role in structuring the Rs 3,000-crore IPO of Dr Agarwal’s Healthcare. Additionally, it has successfully handled Qualified Institutional Placements (QIPs) worth Rs 7,500 crore for Varun Beverages and Rs 2,250 crore for 360 One Wam, reinforcing its presence in the investment banking landscape.

This leadership expansion comes at a time when India has emerged as the global leader in IPO volumes, surpassing other major economies. According to the ‘EY Global IPO Trends 2024’ report released in December, India witnessed 337 IPOs (mainline and SME) in 2024, outpacing the United States, which recorded 183 IPOs, and surpassing European markets by more than two and a half times.
