Mumbai-based leading law firm, Solicis Lex Advisory, has announced its merger with the Delhi-based boutique law firm, Law Intellect, marking a strategic move to strengthen its presence in North India. Post-merger, the new entity has been rebranded as Solicis Capital, with its headquarters in the NCR region. This collaboration reflects a significant step forward for both firms, blending expertise and resources to cater to an expanded client base.
Advocate Ameet Mehta, Managing Partner of Solicis Lex Advisory, highlighted the rationale behind the merger, explaining the firm’s vision for growth and consolidation in key regions. “After successfully establishing our presence internationally in countries like New Zealand, Israel, the USA, Canada, Bahrain, the UK, and the UAE, we decided to focus on domestic expansion in regions like Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Delhi. While Solicis already had a presence in Delhi, acquiring a mid-sized boutique firm like Law Intellect aligned perfectly with our need for a stronger foothold in this region,” Mehta said.
The partnership also brings on board Advocate Sumit Chander, Managing Partner of Law Intellect, who will now play a pivotal role in the newly merged entity. Advocate Chander is a well-regarded practitioner at the Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court, known for his influential Public Interest Litigation (PIL) initiatives. His notable PIL led to the establishment of 18 Fast Track Courts and 22 Commercial Courts in Delhi, a remarkable achievement that garnered widespread media attention.
Law Intellect’s areas of specialization include Enforcement Directorate (ED) matters, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cases, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) disputes, Customs law, Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) compliance, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Trademark and Copyright law, and Supreme Court litigation. With a robust team of over 60 legal professionals, the firm adds substantial value to Solicis Capital’s operations.
The merger was formally celebrated at an event held on January 11, 2025, at The Constitution Club of India in New Delhi. The gathering was graced by eminent personalities, including political leaders, government ministers, celebrities, senior bureaucrats (IAS, IPS, IFS), senior counsels, sitting judges, and members of the press. The event saw enthusiastic support for the collaboration, with speakers emphasizing the potential of Solicis Capital to redefine legal services in the region. Notable speeches from Senior Counsels drew attention to the synergy between the two firms and their shared commitment to legal excellence.
Advocate Mehta expressed his enthusiasm for the expanded scope of Solicis Capital, stating, “With the addition of Advocate Sumit Chander and his accomplished team, we are confident that Solicis Capital will emerge as a trusted legal partner for clients in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Noida, and other parts of the NCR region. Our combined expertise ensures we can cater to a wide range of legal needs effectively.”
Solicis now boasts a combined strength of over 300 lawyers across India. The merger further positions the firm as a significant player in the Indian legal landscape, reinforcing its capacity to handle complex legal matters both domestically and internationally.
