KPMG LLP, a leading U.S. audit, tax, and advisory firm, has announced the appointment of Matt Miner as Vice Chair and General Counsel, effective February 28, 2025. In this role, Miner will oversee the firm’s legal, regulatory, and compliance functions, ensuring innovative client service while upholding professional standards and maintaining a robust ethics and compliance program.
Miner will join KPMG’s U.S. Management Committee and serve as Secretary to the KPMG U.S. Board of Directors, overseeing governance matters. Additionally, he will act as Head of Legal and Compliance for the Americas Region and participate in the Americas Management Committee. Collaborating with firm leaders, Miner will support the implementation of KPMG’s Trusted AI framework, integrating ethical principles into the development of new solutions and generative AI capabilities.

Prior to joining KPMG, Miner served as Executive Vice President, Global Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, and Special Counsel at Walmart, where he led a global team of over 1,000 associates across 19 markets. His extensive experience includes roles as a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, leading the firm’s white-collar litigation and government enforcement practice in Washington, D.C., and as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. In the latter position, Miner oversaw the Fraud and Appellate Sections and developed the Division’s 2019 Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Programs guidance.
Miner holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati. He actively contributes to the legal and compliance community, serving on the Business Advisory Council for the University of Cincinnati’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business and the Board of Advisors for the New York University School of Law’s Program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement.
