Date Lawyers across the Delhi District Courts have decided to abstain from participating in any judicial work in response to the inauguration of 34 digital courts to hear cases exclusively under the Negotiable Instruments Act to reduce the pendency. Digital Courts are intended to reduce paperwork, boost efficiency, and accelerate case resolution by utilising electronic filing, virtual hearings, and digitised records.
The Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, inaugurated the inauguration on 6th June, 2025. There are nine digital courts located in Dwarka, seven in Tis Hazari, six in Saket, five in Karkardooma, four in Rohini, and three in Patiala House. The Aam Aadmi Party approved the construction of a new district court complex at Rouse Avenue in August 2024.
The Coordination Committee representing all district court bar associations in Delhi has expressed dissatisfaction and concerns regarding the recent changes, citing “unrest among advocates” in a resolution released on 6th June, 2025. The committee has resolved to abstain from judicial work across all Delhi District Courts on 9th June, 2025, as stated in their circular.
