On 17th July, 2025, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva was sworn in as the 29th Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court. He was previously serving as Acting Chief Justice and succeeded Justice Suresh Kumar Kait.
During his address, he called for the need for harmony between the Bar and the Bench to reduce judicial pendency and ensure effective justice delivery. He emphasised that both institutions must work together to ensure that litigants who leave court are satisfied.
He also argued that lawyers should avoid frivolous litigation. He asked the Senior advocates to mentor junior lawyers and the Bar associations to conduct training for their members. He emphasised that young advocates are the future and hence need guidance.
He praised the registry officers for working tirelessly, even sacrificing holidays, to ensure timely case listing and scrutiny. He acknowledged that despite the reduced strength of judges, the court achieved an almost 90% disposal rate of cases.
He also highlighted the challenges faced by judges, registry staff, advocates, and litigants. He also acknowledged the pressure that judges face due to the volume of cases.
Finally, he requested the bar association not just to escalate problems but also to suggest solutions. He emphasised that lasting change takes time and also requires patience and collaboration.
