Justice Harpreet Singh Brar Appointed As Permanent Judge Of Punjab And Haryana High Court

On 1st January, 2025, the Central Government confirmed the appointment of Justice Harpreet Singh Brar as a permanent judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

 The notification regarding his appointment was published on the website of Ministry of Law & Justice.

The notification reads that according to the power under Article 217, clause (1) of the Constitution of India, the President is appointing Justice Harpreet Singh Brar, currently Additional Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court, to serve as a Judge of that High Court. The appointment will come into effect from the date on which he assumes charge of his office.

His name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for appointment as a judge back in July 2022.

The recommendation was reaffirmed in March 2023. Justice Brar was subsequently appointed as an additional judge of the High Court.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court is currently operating with 52 judges. Its sanctioned strength is 85, which leaves it with 33 vacancies.
