On Friday, the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Nagarabhavi, Bengaluru, shared exciting news about a substantial grant received from the JSW Group. This funding is set to transform and expand the university’s core academic facilities, as well as introduce the innovative ‘JSW Centre on the Future of Law’ on campus.
Originally constructed in 2014, the two-storey New Academic Block (NAB) will undergo significant development. With this grant, the NAB will see the addition of four new floors and a complete makeover of the existing two, according to a joint statement by NLSIU and JSW Group.
The revamped block will house advanced, flexible learning environments and office spaces designed to enhance collaboration among students, faculty, and researchers. “This generous grant, the largest in the university’s history, enables the successful implementation of the next phase of the NLSIU Inclusion and Expansion Plan 2021-25,” stated NLSIU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sudhir Krishnaswamy. He highlighted that this plan aims to increase student intake by nearly 350% to promote greater inclusivity and opportunity within the student body.
Furthermore, the funding will establish the ‘JSW Centre for the Future of Law’ on the NLSIU campus. “This centre will anchor academic and policy research and curricular interventions that explore the effects of new technologies on the future of the legal system, the legal profession, and legal education,” the statement detailed. The Centre’s mission includes developing innovative legal regulations and fostering technologies that enhance legal system reform and access to justice.
Sangita Jindal, Chairperson of the JSW Foundation, commented on the impact of this initiative: “The JSW contribution of revamping the new academic block is going to help to significantly improve teaching quality, infrastructure, and access to resources for students and faculty on campus.” This development represents a significant step forward for NLSIU, promising a brighter future for its community.
