Today signified the commencement of the investigation by the three-member in-house committee that Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna established to look into the claims pertaining to the seizure of a cash pile from Justice Yashwant Varma’s home.

As part of the investigation, a committee made up of Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court; Justice GS Sandhawalia, Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh; and Justice Anu Sivaraman, a Karnataka High Court judge, visited Justice Varma’s home at approximately 1 pm and stayed for about 45 minutes.

As part of the investigation, the committee members visited Justice Varma’s home at around 1:00 pm and stayed for about forty-five minutes.

According to the Times of India, firefighters unintentionally recovered undeclared cash from a fire that broke out at Justice Varma’s residence on the evening of March 14.

On the aforementioned day, Justice Varma and his spouse were traveling in Madhya Pradesh rather than Delhi. When the fire started, only his elderly mother and daughter were home.
Justice Varma was accused of corruption as a result of the event, but he has disputed the charges and insisted that there seems to have been a plot to frame him.

On March 22, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) established a three-member team to carry out an internal investigation into the claims.

The Delhi Police Commissioner reportedly showed the Chief Justice of the High Court a video of the recovered charred cash, and the Supreme Court has subsequently posted it on its website.

Along with Justice Varma’s reaction, the Supreme Court also released the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court’s report on the occurrence.
