University Law College & Dept. of Studies in Law, Bangalore University is committed towards imparting quality education, promoting scientific tempo and blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills. The institution aims at pursuing academic excellence through teaching, research, publications and by providing access to all sections of the society to pursue higher education for promoting leadership qualities among students making them socially sensitive citizens.
The erstwhile Government of Mysore (now the State of Karnataka) started the college in the year 1948. It was previously known as the Bangalore Government Law College. From 1964, ULC was brought under the Faculty of Law of Bangalore University. In the year 1982, the college emphatically transformed into one of the first professional law colleges in the country by introducing the five-year integrated B.A.,LL.B. program for the first time, in the academic year 1986-87. This was an initiative to achieve higher standards in legal education.
Legal education at ULC equips the students for the complete spectrum of career opportunities available to lawyers, and provides them with the capability to adapt to the rapid pace of change that characterizes modern legal practice. As a testimony to this fact, among ULC’s graduates are many Supreme Court and High Court Justices, renowned public servants, bureaucrats, lawyers and academicians of repute. Some of the notable alumni include Hon’ble Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah, Hon’ble Justice Venkatachala, Hon’ble Justice N. Santosh Hegde, Hon’ble Justice R.V. Raveendran, Sri. S. Bangarappa, Sri. S.M. Krishna, Smt. Margaret Alva.
Presently, Prof. Dr. Suresh V. Nadagoudar is the Principal of University Law College, Bangalore University, and Prof. Dr. N. Dasharath is the Chairman of the Department of Studies in Law and Dean, Faculty of Law, Bangalore University, Bengaluru.
About the Workshop:
The impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the society has been enormous. The implications of the pandemic range from macroeconomic effects to the deterioration of living standards of the downtrodden at the ground level. In this backdrop, it becomes pertinent to deliberate and discuss the role of human rights law in alleviating the sufferings of the needy during challenging situations such as pandemics as a whole. Hence, we at University Law College, Bangalore University have decided to initiate deliberations on ‘Protection of Human Rights during Pandemic’.
The objective of the workshop is to analyse different fields of law through a human rights perspective. It includes construction of laws and legal principles through the prism of human rights. The workshop will include deliberations on the impact of pandemics on all major fields such as Labour law, Intellectual Property Rights law, Constitutional law, inter alia.
Eligibility to Participate:
All law faculties, legal professionals, legal research scholars, law students pursuing under-graduation & post-graduation courses are eligible to participate in the virtual workshop.
 
Dates & Duration:
The workshop will be conducted on 10th and 11th July 2020. The detailed itinerary of the workshop will be shared with the participants at the earliest. There will be four sessions in total with two sessions each on two days.
