On 22 July 2025, the Gujarat High Court officially closed contempt of court proceedings against Senior Advocate Bhaskar Tanna, who appeared during a virtual court hearing while sipping beer. The proceedings, initiated after a video of Bhaskar Tanna surfaced online, captured him in a compromising position during a session led by Justice Sandeep Bhatt on June 26.
The Bench, comprising Justices AS Supehia and RT Vachhani, reviewed a report submitted by the court registry. The Bench of Justices acknowledged that Bhaskar Tanna’s actions were coincident rather than deliberate.
The Court noted, “Bhaskar Tanna stating that this incident happens from a misunderstanding in operating the video conferencing system. He emphasized his respect for the dignity of the court & highlighted his 52 years of practice in legal career, and the title of prestigious Senior Advocate since 1995.”
The Justices further acknowledged Bhaskar Tanna’s unconditional apology. He assures us that such incident will not happen again in the future & requested to end the proceedings, that help us to decide in favour of closing the case. On 22 July 2025, during the court hearing Adv. Bhaskar Tanna admitted his mistake & describe it as a technical error. He said I thought i was exiting the session but mistakenly pressed the wrong button.
