Foxconn has started shipping components from China to India for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17. The volume indicates the beginning of trial production, not full-scale output, these include display assemblies, rear camera modules, and housing parts.

India Expands & Gains Ground in Apple Supply Chain

India’s role in Apple’s manufacturing strategy is growing. The company plans to shift iPhone production for the U.S. market from China to India by 2026. Apple has already integrated India into its New Product Introduction (NPI) process, starting with the iPhone 16.

Mass Production from August

Trial assembly is set to begin this month. Full-scale manufacturing will start in August, ahead of a global launch expected in September. Apple aims to roll out the iPhone 17 simultaneously in India and China for the first time.

Challenges Ahead

Foxconn is reportedly recalling Chinese engineers from India, raising concerns about iPhone 17 timelines. Delays by Chinese customs in releasing key production machinery may further impact Indian operations. The move is seen as part of China’s effort to retain critical tech capabilities domestically.
