Former Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice and Ex-Securities Appellate Tribunal presiding officer, Justice Tarun Agarwala, passed away on March 29, 2025. He suffered a heart attack, and all attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Justice Agarwala pursued his Bachelor of Arts from Allahabad University in 1978 and later obtained a law degree from the University of Allahabad. He enrolled as an advocate on December 9, 1981, and practiced at the Allahabad High Court, specializing in Civil Law, Constitutional Law, Taxation, Labor Disputes, Testamentary matters, and Corporate Affairs. His judicial career began with his appointment as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on January 7, 2004, and he was subsequently sworn in as a Permanent Judge on August 18, 2005.
On September 25, 2009, he was transferred to the Uttarakhand High Court, where he served as the Acting Chief Justice from September 25 to November 29, 2009.
Justice Agarwala later returned to the Allahabad High Court, taking oath on October 17, 2012. His career progressed further when he was transferred to the Meghalaya High Court on February 12, 2018, where he assumed the position of Chief Justice. Following his retirement, he was appointed as the presiding officer of the Securities Appellate Tribunal in 2018 for a five-year term.
