Fake Website Misuses Name and Photo of Former Attorney General KK Venugopal

On 10th September, 2025, A website pretending to be linked to KK Venugopal, former Attorney General of India, appeared online. It uses his name and photograph to pass itself off as a law firm. The site presents him as its head and falsely claims to handle personal injury cases, raising serious concerns about online impersonation and fraud.

At first glance, the website looks unconvincing. Most of the links do not open, no phone number is listed, and the only way to get in touch is through a chat box asking for personal details such as name, email, and contact number. It even mentions a London address along with a generic email ID, but neither appears reliable.

People in the legal fraternity have voiced concern over the misuse of Mr. Venugopal’s identity. From 2017 until 2022, Mr. Venugopal served as the country’s Attorney General. His long career has made him a familiar and respected figure in constitutional practice. To see his name and photograph placed on a fake website is not just damaging to his reputation but also risky for people who may unknowingly share their personal information there.

This case serves as a reminder of the growing problem of online impersonation. People are advised to check the authenticity of websites before engaging with them and to report suspicious domains to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or their local cybercrime police station.
