On 14th August 2025, The Delhi High Court has stopped a former ICICI bank employee from posting or sharing any defamation content against the bank. The Court was told that he had uploaded more than 100 derogatory videos on social media after its end.
The case was heard by Justice Amit Bansal, who passed the interim injunction in Kapil Dev Singh & Anr v. Dharmendra. Dharmendra Gupta, one of the ICICI Bank and its former managers demanded immediate security of his reputation from the Court. Dharmendra Gupta, which was on probation from 11th May 2022, was abolished on 6th June 2023. The bank alleged that in addition to the online video, he also made derogatory remarks during reconciliation proceedings under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 on 15th May 2025 and later broadcasted it online.
The bank presented the screen recording of these proceedings, stored on a pen drive, as evidence. After reviewing the material, the Court noted a prima facie case in favor of the plaintiff and saw that the continuous publication of such material could cause irreparable damage. It instructed Dharmendra Gupta to not make, post, or broadcast any derogatory, or uneven content in video, audio, or written form- according to ICICI Bank or co-plaintiff, according to ICICI Bank co-plaintiff, until further orders. They were also barred from broadcasting any recording of quasi-judicial or judicial proceedings that involve the bank.
The case will be taken for procedural steps before the Joint Registrar on 9th October 2025, and for hearing on 15th January 2026. ICICI Bank is represented by Advocates Samudra Sarangi, Riya Kalra, Paritosh Tengshe, and Panchi Agarwal of Panag & Babu.
Court action suggests how quickly it can move to protect reputation in the digital age, especially when online materials damage to stand beyond repair. It also underlines the right balance that the Court should strike between the loss caused by free speech and defamation statements one issue for several defamation suits in India.
