In a landmark move for the Indian legal market, global law firm CMS has partnered with leading Indian law firm IndusLaw to create CMS IndusLaw. The integration, expected to be finalized by the end of 2025, marks a significant step in CMS’s expansion in Asia and strengthens its global presence by combining its international expertise with IndusLaw’s deep local knowledge.
A Strategic Alliance
The partnership brings together CMS’s extensive network, spanning 45 countries with over 7,200 professionals, and IndusLaw’s robust team of 60 partners and more than 400 lawyers across India. This collaboration is one of the first major tie-ups between an international and Indian law firm, following the precedent set by Dentons and Link Legal two years ago. The move comes amid India’s gradual liberalization of its legal market, which is increasingly opening to foreign firms.
Leveraging Local Expertise
Founded in 2000, IndusLaw has established itself as a trusted advisor to many of India’s unicorn startups. With offices in Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai, the firm brings a strong domestic presence and deep market insight. Under the CMS IndusLaw banner, it will retain its Indian identity while gaining access to CMS’s global resources and expertise.

CMS executive partner Duncan Weston described the partnership as a “significant step” in the firm’s Asian and global expansion strategy, emphasizing India’s growing importance as a global economic powerhouse. “This alliance allows us to combine our international reach with IndusLaw’s local expertise to deliver unparalleled legal services,” Weston said.
