He noted that this courageous approach not only contributes to individual growth but also fosters a more inclusive and harmonious community.
Justice V.G Arun praised the praised the parents who make a conscious decision to nurture their children in environments that prioritize critical thinking and open-mindedness over dogma.
“I laud each and every one of you who send your children to school and educate them without attaching religion or caste to their identities,” he stated passionately.
“These children are truly the promise of tomorrow. They will possess the courage to ask the right questions, even in the face of societal opposition, and they will strive to build a future founded on understanding and mutual respect.”
He highlights the essential need for an education system that encourages inquiry and citizenship free from religious confines, paving the way for a more enlightened society. These remarks were delivered by Justice V.G Arun at an event which were organized by the Kerala Yukthivadi Sangam, a prominent rationalist organization based in Kerala, which aims to promote scientific thinking and secular values. The occasion was particularly significant, as it commemorated the contributions of the influential rationalist and writer known by the pen name Pavanan.
Speech delivered entirely in Malayalam & noted the pivotal role of both Pavanan and Vaisakhan in advocating for a society free from the shackles of caste-based identities. Justice V.G. Arun conveyed his dismay over the toxic environment on social media platforms, where uninhibited criticism is aimed at individuals advocating for rational thought. He said I am often confronted with distressing language and thoughts. Many cases presented to me seek to quash criminal proceedings based on these pernicious online posts. I am forced to engage with this content, which unfortunately tarnishes the richness of the Malayalam language. I often wonder how a Malayalee can degrade themselves in such a manner.
“As has been often articulated, the ultimate goal of secularism is to foster a classless society. The declaration by certain citizens that they and their descendants identify as non-religious can only be seen as a courageous step towards realizing that constitutional objective,” Justice V.G Arun stated firmly in his judgment.
Such rulings reflect his commitment to promoting a more inclusive and equitable society, free from the constraints of caste and religion.
