The Bombay High Court is finally getting a new bench in Kolhapur, a district in western Maharashtra, and it’s going to be a game-changer for the region. The new bench will start functioning from August 18, 2025, and will cover six districts, including Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. This move has been long overdue, and the people of the region have been eagerly waiting for it.

For a long time, people in this region have had to travel all the way to Mumbai for court hearings, which is a whopping 380 km away. It’s been a huge hassle, not just in terms of time but also expenses. But now, with the new bench coming into operation, people will finally have easier access to justice. They will no longer have to spend hours traveling to Mumbai, and will be able to attend court hearings without having to worry about the logistics.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is thrilled about the development. He believes that the new bench will make justice more accessible to people in the region and save them a lot of time, effort, and money. He’s also grateful to the Chief Justice of India, B R Gavai and the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Alok Aradhe for their support in making this happen.
