The Central Government has approved the appointment of five lawyers as Additional Judges of Bombay High Court.

On Wednesday, 23rd October, 2024, Union Minister of State for Law, Arjun Ram Meghwal, announced the new appointments through his official Twitter account.

The five newly appointed advocates are Nivedita Prakash Mehta, Prafulla Surendrakumar Khubalkar, Ashwin Damodar Bhobe, Rohit Wasudeo Joshi, and Advait Mahendra Sethna. These appointments result from a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium dated September 24.

The original recommendation for these lawyers was submitted by the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court on January 19, 2024.

Judiciary is continuously taking efforts to address vacancies and improve its operational capacity.

At present, the Bombay High Court has 64 judges, which is considerably less than its sanctioned strength of 94. This development is a crucial move towards tackling the backlog of cases and enhancing the overall efficiency of the court system in one of India’s most populous states.
