The Bar Council of India (BCI) has decided to halt admissions for seven law schools for the 2024-25 academic year. This move aims to address the proliferation of substandard law colleges across India.

Four of these colleges are based in Uttar Pradesh, two in Andhra Pradesh, and one in Rajasthan. The affected institutions are:

  1. HS Law College in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, affiliated with Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra.
  2. Master Somnath Law College in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, affiliated with Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Jaipur.
  3. Shri Krishna College of Law in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, affiliated with Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.
  4. Sri Eshwar Reddy College of Law in Tirupathi, Andhra Pradesh, affiliated with Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupathi.
  5. Sri Shirdi Sai Vidya Parishad, Sri Shirdi Sai Law College in Anakapalli, Andhra Pradesh, affiliated with Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam.
  6. SS College of Law in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, affiliated with Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra.
  7. Teju Singh Memorial Law College in Uttar Pradesh, affiliated with Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkand University, Bareilly.

BCI’s decision reflects its ongoing effort to “curb the mushrooming of substandard law colleges” in the country.
