On 3rd September, 2025, the Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench) dismissed a writ petition seeking to restrain the release and exhibition of the upcoming Bollywood film Jolly LLB 3. The Court dismissed the plea and ruled that the movie does not contain objectionable content against the judiciary or the legal profession.

The petition, filed by advocates Jay Vardhan Shukla and another, argued that the film’s trailer and the promotional song “Bhai Vakeel Hai” portrayed lawyers in a derogatory manner and scandalised the judiciary. The petitioners sought multiple directions from the court, including, ban on the release, exhibition, or distribution of Jolly LLB 3,  removal of the song “Bhai Vakeel Hai”, the revocation of CBFC’s certification of the film, and a public apology from the director, actors, and producers for allegedly demeaning the legal profession.

The Division Bench, comprising Justice Sangeeta Chandra and Justice Brij Raj Singh, examined the trailers and the lyrics of the contested song. The judges held that the trailers did not contain any scandalous or objectionable material, and the song also did not interfere with the dignity of advocates or hinder the practice of law by genuine professionals.

The Court also held that the petitioners had not exhausted remedies available under the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, which require grievances to first be raised with the content publisher or intermediary. The Court accepted the preliminary objection raised by the Deputy Solicitor General of India, who argued that a writ of mandamus could not be issued without first making a representation before the concerned authorities.
