Tanvi Dubey Advocate
I believe there is no single day we can dedicate to celebrate the life and work of women. Step taken to empower even a single girl child is getting us closer to our goal. Starting with the induction of Cornelia Sorabji into the High Court of Allahabad in 1921 to practice as an Advocate, the legal profession had opened its doors for women to practice. The journey of Cornelia Sorabji from entering the Bombay law college, to becoming the first women to pursue BCL at Oxford University in 1892- was unveiled in Lincoln’s Inn, the world’s oldest law society. Cornelia Sorabji has indeed set an example for millions.
My message to the young women lawyers will be to have confidence and trust in themselves. It’s true that the journey will not be a rosy one and there will be various hurdles now and then, but following certain principles help you cross those hurdles and move ahead. It’s extremely important to understand that women need support of other women. What you require is a lot of hard work, lot of patience and a positive approach. If you have chosen this profession, you cannot afford to quit without a fight.
– Bridge the confidence gap
– Perseverance is the key
– Positive attitude help you climb mountains
– Try and adopt a pragmatic approach
We have indeed come a long way and the remaining path can be covered by sheer patience, dedication and hard work.
