The Bombay High Court on 11th September 2024 issued an advisory warning the public about an alarming rise in fraudulent activities where scammers impersonate High Court judges and judicial officers to solicit money. These fraudsters have been making phone calls, sending text messages, and sharing links, falsely claiming authority and demanding funds from unsuspecting individuals.

In light of these incidents, the High Court’s Registrar General released a notice emphasizing the gravity of the situation and alerting the public to be cautious. The notice appointed Rajendra T. Virkar as the Nodal Officer to handle reports related to such scams. Citizens are urged to directly report any suspicious communications to him via email at rajvirkar@yahoo.com

Furthermore, the High Court has advised recipients of these fraudulent calls or messages not to engage with them under any circumstances. Instead, they should report the matter to their local police station immediately. The Court has also reassured the public that it is collaborating closely with law enforcement agencies to tackle this issue but emphasized the importance of public vigilance and cooperation in curbing these deceitful activities.

“These scams are not just an attack on individuals but also on the credibility of the judiciary,” the notice stated. Public cooperation is essential in ensuring that these fraudulent practices are identified and reported swiftly.
