Interview Of Mr. Ankur Pastor, The Managing Partner At Innovis Law Partners LLP

An able lawyer and businessman, Mr. Ankur Pastor appreciates what he himself is-straightforward and sincere. This interview has him discussing about his various initiatives and skills of business.

Q. You are the Managing Partner at Innovis Law Partners LLP. Why did you decide to set-up a LLP rather than a regular law firm?

A. In my opinion one must always pace its business as per the market requirement. The research I did initially when I was planning to establish a firm I found out that in the current market scenario LLP is the best mode to do the business as it carries all good advantage of a partnership firm along with the unique feature of Private limited company. Many of the big firms has also changed their structure to LLP in the recent time.

Q. You have represented cases at National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission as well as State Consumer Dispute Redressal Council at Bhopal where you have represented HDFC as the Local Counsel. What type of cases have you been handling lately and what does this tell you about emerging issues in Consumer Law?

A. My Firm is emphasizing lately more into infrastructure disputes and matters related to company laws like Insolvency matters and Arbitration among others. After this lockdown is over I think that there will be lot of litigation with respect to infrastructure laws. Answering your question as to the emerging issues in consumer law, after the recent amendment in the consumer protection act lot of new services has been inducted like e-commerce etc so issues like deficiency in service done by various E- Commerce websites might take a front seat in near future.

Q. What advice do you have for professionals who wish to grow their business in this field?

A. What I have learnt since the time I started my firm is one has to vitiate from the traditional way of doing business. I started my firm emphasizing mainly on start up laws and subsequently I advanced my practice various other laws. In recent times advocacy has become owner of a business then it was earlier and if you don’t pace business as per the current requirement you fall back. So for my friends the only suggestion I have is develop area of expertise an emphasis on it as much as you can.

Q. How did the idea of your NGO- New Darpan, Social Welfare Society occur to you?

A. I along with some of my friends who were studying in various other law schools came up with this idea of starting this NGO in year 2010. We thought that we can and must educate and help the deprived people of society regarding their rights. Since the inception of our NGO we had helped lot of people by providing free legal aid or by doing Pro bono litigations.

Q. You were selected as a team member on the International Antarctic Expedition (IAE) 2013. What were the procedure for your selection and your main task?

A. IAE was founded by polar explorer, environmental leader and public speaker Robert Swan, OBE, the first person in history to walk to both the North and South poles totally unassisted.. There was a form which I filled in which we were supposed to write a personal statement as to why I was interested in being the part of the team, my prior experience with sustainability and climatic change issues and what unique prospective I will bring to the team.. They received thousands of application across the world and 30 people were selected for the expedition. The main task was to create an international youth coalition of Antarctic defenders who will champion renewable energy as their path to saving the continent. By initiating change in their communities with a larger goal of spreading awareness about Antarctica at an international level.
